We, the undersigned, white-skinned men,
- alarmed by the rise of hateful rhetoric that poisons our daily lives,
- representing a likely silent majority of white men who do not identify with the hateful diatribes of certain billionaires or elected officials from various countries,
- believing that we must adopt an active stance of solidarity against all forms of injustice that plague our society—whether based on skin color, gender, sexual orientation, or other factors,
- recognizing that complicit silence in the face of sexist, sexual, racial, and social violence and discrimination is no longer acceptable today,
declare that we can no longer pretend to ignore the suffering of others simply because our social position shields us from it. We affirm that it is also our duty, as white men, to humbly and yet resolutely denounce and fight against these injustices.
This is why we proclaim the following:
- We denounce any rhetoric that demeans women, racialized individuals, LGBTQIA+ people, and anyone based on their culture or real or perceived religion.
- We denounce all forms of physical, psychological, economic, and digital violence against women, from domestic violence to rape, including unjustified wage inequalities, and demand that all measures be put in place to end it.
- We condemn discrimination against racialized individuals in employment, housing, leisure, education, and racial profiling by law enforcement. Here too, we believe urgent action must be taken to make such realities impossible.
- We denounce any form of denial or trivialization of these sexist and racist acts of violence, particularly when used for political purposes.
- We denounce the overrepresentation of women and racialized individuals among the poorest social categories and, in doing so, denounce the unacceptable persistence of poverty in a world with so much wealth.
- We denounce the overrepresentation of white men, including ourselves, in the most valued and highly compensated positions, both financially and symbolically.
- We consider all rhetoric, whether conscious or unconscious, on male, white, or heterosexual supremacy to be archaic and dangerous.
- We declare ourselves awakened to the fact that our position as men and as white individuals grants us privileges and advantages over other groups, such as women and racialized individuals, in many areas of life.
- We observe that discrimination against women persists, such that despite being more highly educated, they still face the “glass ceiling” that keeps them underrepresented in the most valued and highly compensated roles. We believe urgent action is needed to dismantle these unjust barriers.
- We are convinced that greater diversity and genuine equality among individuals will strengthen social, political, and economic structures, rather than undermine them.
- We believe that the idealization of a fantasized past or the pursuit of an illusory ethnic or cultural purity are costly archaic notions that we must decisively abandon.
- We believe in celebrating all our differences (in gender, origin, culture, sexual orientation, disability…) as contributions to collectively building a more just and respectful society for the benefit of all.
- We affirm that greater attention must be given to the needs of all individuals with disabilities, enabling them to fully participate in social and professional life.
- We pledge to combat our own stereotypes.
- We are not afraid of women, we are not afraid of racialized individuals, we are not afraid of LGBTQIA+ people, and we are not afraid of people with disabilities.
- We fear only ignorance, vengeance, hatred, and contempt.
We call for genuine societal change, with a proactive approach that goes beyond merely denouncing these issues. We demand that the hateful rhetoric of a minority no longer dominate debates, discourse, and media coverage.
Because a fairer, more diverse world where everyone finds their rightful place will be a better world for our children, regardless of their gender or skin color.
